A propósito de la presencia de los vampiros en el cine desde hace un siglo, la Revista Kinetoscopio (una de las revistas de cine más importantes de Colombia), en su edición 131, elaboró un dossier con artículos y reseñas sobre el tema. En el texto "Vampiros tropicales en el cine o Drácula con dieta de Vampisol" escrito por Oswaldo Osorio para este especial, se dice:
"Este recorrido termina con Paloquemao (Jeferson Cardoza Herrera, 2022), cortometraje bogotano en el que un grupo de vampiros opera en la plaza de mercado, una sólida película que plantea un estilo y universo definidos como gótico popular, una propuesta que complejiza el nivel de la apropiación de ese género en principio tan lejano, el gótico, pero que el cine latinoamericano ha sabido darle su carácter propio."
La Banda Del Sur Films presente en SITGES 🦍
La edición #55 del Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantástico de Catalunya SITGES se llevó a cabo entre el 6 y el 16 de octubre de 2022.
Allí, nuestro director Jeferson Cardoza y nuestro montajista Rafael Pérez, no solo tuvieron la oportunidad de ver increíbles películas de cine de género en todas sus expresiones, sino que también aprovecharon todas las actividades que ofrece el mercado para conocer de primera mano lo que está sucediendo en la actualidad con la fantasía a nivel mundial y para empezar a tejer una red de contactos importantes para el futuro,

¡Estreno del cortometraje Paloquemao! 🎬
Después de participar en el 28° Lund Fantastic Film Festival en Suecia (octubre 2022), los vampiros del subdesarrollo llegarán a las pantallas grandes de su ciudad natal, pues el corto hace parte de la selección oficial del 20° Festival de Cortos de Bogotá BOGOSHORTS que se celebrará del 6 al 13 de diciembre de 2022 en Bogotá.
Además de tener 3 funciones como parte de la Competencia Nacional de Ficción y 2 como parte del programa Especial Los colmillos de Orlok: Homenaje a Nosferatu en sus 100 años; ofreceremos un tour cinematográfico y gastronómico por la Plaza de Mercado Paloquemao y una fiesta llamada VAMPISOL VOL. 1, en donde esperamos bailar hasta ver salir el sol.

El viernes 15 de julio el marco del 13° Bogotá Audiovisual Market - BAM, Proimágenes Colombia anunció los cortometrajes seleccionados para ser parte del cuarto catálogo REFRESH, una estrategia del área de Promoción Internacional que busca seleccionar los mejores cortos colombianos producidos entre 2021 y 2022, con el fin de apoyar a los realizadores en la etapa de postulación a festivales dentro y fuera del país durante un año calendario.
Así, después de recibir más de 100 películas, los jurados Marie-Elaine Riou, Ignacio Hernández y Simón Mesa Soto, escogieron nuestro cortometraje Paloquemao como uno de los 7 títulos que conforman este importante catálogo, el cual nos ayudará a reforzar nuestra distribución a nivel internacional ¡Esperamos pronto poder darles grandes noticias!

El Festival de Cortometrajes de Clermont Ferrand (#ClermontFF22) celebrará su edición #44 del 28 de enero al 5 de febrero del 2022 y nuestro #CortoPaloquemao fue uno de los 4 cortometrajes colombianos etiquetados dentro de Short Film Market Picks, una acción que busca visibilizar películas valiosas dentro del mercado.
Este mercado reúne cada año a más de 3.600 visitantes acreditados procedentes de más de 80 países que tienen acceso a un catálogo de 7.500 títulos recientes, pues combina componentes físicos y digitales para atender las necesidades de la industria.

Después de 5 días de rodaje (21-25 de junio de 2021) y 4 meses de montaje y post-producción, esta película de vampiros en la Plaza de Mercado de Paloquemao ahora es un hecho y queremos aprovechar para agradecer a todo el equipo y aliados que creyeron en este proyecto.
Con una duración final de 19 minutos, el cortometraje Paloquemao tiene como sinopsis que:
"Cuando la mayor red de tráfico de sangre de Bogotá fue desmantelada, la tranquilidad de la Plaza de Mercado de Paloquemao se vio amenazada con la presencia de sedientos vampiros que comenzaron a deambular sus oscuros pasillos."

Thanks to the IDARTES short film creation grant and the support of different national companies, the short film Paloquemao will be shot the third week of May 2021. However, resources are still needed to ensure the POST-PRODUCTION and PROMOTION process of the film, so that the history of these vampires can travel to different corners of the world (including Transylvania).
For this reason, the LA BANDA DEL SUR FILMS team launched an expanded crowfunding campaign through the VAKI platform and QR codes from Bancolombia, Nequi and Daviplata, where you can donate to the project and receive different rewards ranging from a guided experience in the Paloquemao Market Square, to # GóticoPopular t-shirts, a fanzine with exclusive content and many more.
From the Plaza to Buenos Aires, Argentina! 💥
Our director Jeferson Cardoza Herrera was selected among 1,200 applications to participate in the sixteenth edition of this important Latin American meeting, whose theme for this year is inspired by the film by the great Cali director Luis Ospina: # TodoComenzóPorElFin .

This talent development program, organized jointly by the Universidad del Cine de Argentina and Berlinale Talents of the Berlin Film Festival, will take place virtually from March 23 to 26 and will be attended by 80 young people from different countries. From the band we feel very happy and proud, and we hope you learn a lot.

PS: Our producer Melisa Zapata was also selected as a scriptwriter in 2019.
Two days of casting and many vampires 🎭
With all the necessary biosafety protocols , the physical casting for the #CortoPaloquemao was carried out on February 5 and 6, attended by around 150 people of different profiles and occupations.

In addition, people also had the opportunity to send their presentation videos to our email, which allowed us to expand our range of possibilities and thus choose the characters for our film.

At the end of March 2021 , everyone will be notified if they were selected or not, because although we would like everyone to participate, it is not possible for many reasons. In any case, we thank you for your trust and enthusiasm for being part of this project.

After almost two years of work on the short film Paloquemao, today, August 28, 2020, we were the only winners of the FICTION SHORT FILM CREATION SCHOLARSHIP FOR NEW FILMMAKERS of the IDARTES District Incentive Program and we couldn't be happier and excited.

Today, with our lucky number (28), that dream of being able to make a film about the place where our director Jeferson Cardoza grew up and worked is getting closer and closer.

This film, which seeks to show a fantastic and alternative side of the Paloquemao Market Square, is a tribute to her and the people who work there ; so thanks to all the people who have believed in us and in this madness of making movies.

Thanks to the participation of #CortoPaloquemao in the #IncubadoraBFM of the BOGOSHORTS Film Market in 2019, the project was selected to be part of the LA PETITE FABRIQUE (12 ° EURO CONNECTION) section of the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market, the most popular short film market important parts of the world.

During this week, the director Jeferson Cardoza and the producer Melisa Zapata, had the opportunity to share with other 4 selected projects (and their filmmakers), in training sessions and preparation for the final pitch in front of different international producers and other private meetings. In addition, both were able to see various short films at the great Maison de la Culture and attend the awards gala, where they dream of being the next time with the finished film.
